Bariatric Surgery

Robotic surgery is increasingly being used in bariatric procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and duodenal switch.

Robotic bariatric surgery allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with increased precision and accuracy while decreasing the risk of complications. For example, robotic gastric bypass surgery can reduce the risk of internal bleeding by more precisely controlling the incision.

Cardiothoracic Surgery

Our cardiothoracic surgeons use advanced robotic techniques for procedures like coronary artery bypass graft surgery. This minimally invasive approach involves small incisions, reducing the need for large chest openings. The benefits include:

How is cardiac robotic surgery done?

This new technique eliminates the need to open a 2–3-inch area between the ribs to allow room to hand-sew the bypass outside the body. Instead, small port holes are used for the surgeon-controlled robotic arms to perform the procedure. The port holes are small enough to allow coverage by an average-size bandage after surgery. In addition, a section of the mammary vessel from the inside of the chest wall is harvested instead of the traditional harvesting of the saphenous vein. This eliminates the extra incision on the inside of the leg.

General Surgery

Robotic surgery is used in general surgery to perform a wide variety of procedures, including hernia repair, gallbladder removal, bariatric (weight loss) surgery, colectomy (removal of part or all of the colon), lung resection (removal of part of the lung), and gastrectomy (removal of part or all of the stomach).

Also, this type of approach can be used for a variety of general surgical operations, including ablation (removal of tumors), biopsies, resection (removal) of cancer, and repair of abdominal hernias.
